TouchBook needs to preload all your Contacts, so it will take a bit of time to load the application, if you have a lot of addresses.

I think I've actually figured it out so hopefully this helps with your other users as well. It looks like there were some pictures that I'd linked to contacts within the Palm Desktop that were no longer linking correctly. Instead of showing the picture on the desktop as it was supposed to show, I had a blue box. When I removed those pictures and synced up again, both touchbook & touchlauncher were back to working.
I've been able to add pictures to contacts from my memory card on the Centro and those work fine, so that's how I'm going to proceed.
What this means is that TB fails to load when your contacts db is somehow corrupt.
